Women's Health
Ryan supports improving women’s access to health care, keeping abortion legal in the state, and passed a major law to increase birth control access.
Ryan is a leader improving women’s access to reproductive health care. Ryan co-authored and passed a historic law in the state in 2023 to increase women’s access to birth control. The law, section 3 of HB6768, allows licensed and trained pharmacists to prescribe oral contraception, which has proven
effective in 20 other states to improve outcomes for women and reduce unplanned pregnancies. The law passed with strong bipartisan support.
Ryan supports keeping abortion legal in state law. Our state should ensure that the industry maintains high health and safety standards for women.
Leaders in both parties are clear on the record that abortion should remain legal in the state, so voters have clarity. Ryan has voted with colleagues of both parties against lowering health and safety standards for the industry. Specifically, he voted against HB5414 alongside Democrats and Republicans, which lowered the standard of care for surgical abortion in the state. That's why independent health care organizations testified critically of the bill.
Ryan continues to support policies that improve access to health care for all, including removing Certificate of Need barriers to care and licensing costs to health care workers. Ryan will always work across the aisle in a constructive way to protect the health and safety of women in our district
